osa’s Relishes Win!
any a jaw dropped when
Rosa’s—a Tex Mex
restaurant—landed in
the top five finalists out
of the 40 restaurants
entered in the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s
Best Bermuda Fish Sandwich Competition.
To begin with, they didn’t even have a fish
sandwich on their menu!
However, not to be dissuaded by that
simple fact, Rosa’s owner, Pamela Quarterly,
entered the competition with faith that the
restaurant manager Lindsay Durham’s family
recipe was something special.
Described as fresh, local Bermuda fish
piled high with tartar sauce, sweet and spicy
coleslaw, cheese, red onions, lettuce and
tomato on raisin or whole wheat bread with a
M
side of regular of sweet potato fries for $19,
the winning fish sandwich was chosen by a
panel of judges on August 19th. After more
than 1,200 votes were collected in the ten-day long competition, and with four others in
the final round of judging—including Mama
Angie’s, Seaside Grill, Tribe Road Kitchen
and Woody’s Restaurant—Rosa’s reigned
supreme.
The judges included senior culinary arts
lecturer at Bermuda College, Teneika Eve,
the king of fishcakes himself, Dale Butler,
and The Bermudian’s own publisher and
editor, Tina Stevenson, who all participated
in a blind taste-testing in front of a crowd at
Harbour Nights.
“Winning Bermuda’s first Best Fish
Sandwich Competition was an amazing
experience,” said Quarterly. “Team Rosa’s,
led by our own Lindsay Simmons Durham,
and her family’s fish coating recipe did an
outstanding job. Everyone in our organisation came together in a spirit of cooperation
and unity to put out the best fish sandwich
possible and we were thrilled our customers and the judges agreed. A job indeed
well done for our dedicated team!”
With the winning fish sandwich now permanently added to the menu, we’re betting
Rosa’s is the only place in Bermuda where
you can get a fish sandwich and Rasta
tacos with iguana eggs and churros! And
don’t forget a margarita or mojito to wash it
all down with.
The restaurant is open from 11:30 a.m. to
10:30 p.m. daily.
Together we can all make a
GREEN Difference.
